Our family traveled to my mother’s hometown of Hamburg, Iowa for Thanksgiving where I had the opportunity to document the people and the places of her small town. First photographed is the Blue Moon, a popular evening beer and burger joint on Main Street, including portraits of its owners who have kept the bar running for over 40 years to date. Followed are phone portraits of my second-cousin as she enjoys the outdoor weather on Thanksgiving and plays with her older sister in the yard. My largest focus was documenting the town and details of what makes the character of the town stand out from places around it. Lastly, my family took Friday afternoon to visit Lincoln, Nebraska for the annual Huskers vs. Hawkeyes football game. This was an amazing place to photograph the culture and the people, as well. I am extremely grateful for a family-filled and relaxing break away from work so that I could focus on my photography and create documentary images about the place closest to my heart.
